What is a ReStore?
A ReStore is a warehouse-style resale center that accepts donations of gently used home improvement materials, cabinets, tools, and supplies. The ReStore then sells these materials in the local marketplace. The sales proceeds from the ReStore will be used to help additional families in McHenry County through Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County (HFHMC) existing programs: Home building & rehabilitation, critical repair, and financial literacy.
The primary purpose of the ReStore will be to serve as a self-sustaining funding source to HFHMC, and to provide the local community (particularly those of low income) with low-cost building and home improvement materials. A secondary but equally important benefit of the ReStore is the diversion and reuse of building materials, thereby reducing waste in area landfills.
Purpose, Mission and Message:
Purpose: The ReStore is where neighbors, volunteers, and businesses can do good for families in need, the environment, and themselves thru donating and buying quality used home decorating and building materials, and appliances sold at prices significantly below retail. Mission: To help Habitat for Humanity of McHenry County build homes for local low income families and reduce waste by recycling or reclaiming materials that would otherwise be discarded.
